Last week, as part of the University of Burgundy Europe’s Graduate Programme: Art, Science, Anthropocene, ENSAD Dijon hosted a week-long interdisciplinary workshop on a topic at the crossroads of science and artistic creation: exoplanets.
This week of experimentation opened with a lecture by Vincent Bondon (Research Director at the CNRS/ICB Laboratory), who presented recent advances in the study of exoplanets, including the composition of their atmospheres, habitability conditions, and observation methods. This presentation provided students with the necessary scientific foundation to guide their practical work.
The students then conducted experiments and research aimed at designing prototypes of exoplanet atmospheres, combining models, installations, and sensory approaches inspired by scientific data.
A roundtable discussion moderated by philosopher Christian Leclerc provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on the philosophical and ethical dimensions of these planetary imaginaries, particularly concerning otherness and our relationship to Earth and other possible worlds.
The week concluded with a presentation of the imagined atmospheres through video and audio recordings.
