AI and Gender Bias Day: Understanding and Taking Action

The ICB laboratory and the LIB (Burgundy Computer Science Laboratory) are organizing an AI & Gender Bias Day, dedicated to exploring the issues related to artificial intelligence and gender discrimination. This event will bring together researchers, academics, and professionals for a collective reflection on the social and ethical impacts of AI technologies. The day will be held at the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (MSH), on the campus of the University of Burgundy Europe (UBE).

Program of the day

The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a welcome reception over coffee, followed at 8:45 a.m. by an introduction from Alice Martin (Gender Equality Officer at the ICB Laboratory), Jean-Marc Simon (Gender Equality Officer at the ICB Laboratory), and Hélène Cattey (Gender Equality Officer at ICMUB).

  • 9:00 AM – Magalie Ochs, lecturer at Aix-Marseille University, will present her work on bias and AI algorithms.
  • 10:00 AM – Dominique Ginhac, professor of electrical engineering at the University of Burgundy Europe (UBE), will address the technical and social challenges of intelligent systems.
  • 11:00 AM – Raphaël Scherrer will speak on the practical aspects of detecting and correcting bias in data.

A casual lunch is planned for 12:00 PM, followed by coffee at 1:30 PM to encourage informal networking among participants.

The afternoon will feature two keynote presentations:

  • 1:45 PM – Isabelle Collet, sociologist and professor of education at the University of Geneva, will share her research on gender and digital technology.
  • 3:00 PM – Fanny Jourdan, a researcher in Toulouse, will discuss initiatives aimed at reducing bias in AI projects.

The day will conclude at 4:00 PM with Fabrice Mériaudeau and Luca Nobile, who will offer perspectives and avenues for future action.
