The UN has proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ) to highlight its key role in technological progress and sustainable development. This initiative aims to raise public awareness, promote access to quantum education, particularly in developing countries, and encourage research.
The IYQ coincides with the centenary of quantum mechanics, the foundation of modern technologies such as transistors, lasers, and secure communications. UNESCO will lead this global campaign, supported by scientific organizations and more than 70 countries. Events and educational programs will be organized throughout the year to promote quantum science and inspire future generations.
The official launch will take place on February 4, 2025, at UNESCO.
In this context, the ICB Laboratory will also organize events throughout the year to celebrate this centenary and highlight advances in quantum research.
