As part of the second-year internship program, the ICB laboratory and the Institute of Mathematics of Burgundy (IMB) opened their doors to around twenty students, mostly from high schools in Dijon, its surrounding area… and even from Poitiers and Angoulême! For two weeks, these young people experienced a complete immersion in the world of scientific research with a rich and varied program.

The first week was focused on discovery and reflection
For their first experience in the laboratory, the students had the opportunity to attend several fascinating lectures. These covered a variety of topics, including scientific data, the Gaia space mission, and gender equality and inclusion in science—a crucial issue for shaping the future of research.
They also visited the University of Burgundy Europe campus and its laboratories, participated in science workshops, and took part in the essential Climate Fresk workshop, a powerful opportunity to collectively reflect on the environmental challenges that affect us all.

Second week: between creativity, critical thinking and applied science
Make way for interdisciplinarity! This second week was marked by an Art & Science day, led by artist Maëva Ferreira Da Costa, before tackling a topic more relevant than ever: disinformation in science in the digital age. During a science communication workshop, students learned to decipher fake news and sharpen their critical thinking skills.
The week continued with an exploration of the Experimentarium network, followed by a speed-searching session between students and doctoral candidates, as well as several hands-on workshops and lectures on physics. Then, the second-year students had the opportunity to visit the backstage areas of RadioCampus Dijon, allowing them to discover the world of radio and try their hand at recording.
To conclude this wonderful adventure: a fascinating lecture by Victoire Buffet on climate change, a final presentation rich in discussions and presentations, and a convivial gathering over a well-deserved afternoon snack.

A vocation for science… or even more!
The goal of this internship? To immerse students in the world of research, of course, but also to introduce them to unexpected fields, to instill curiosity and open-mindedness… and perhaps even spark a passion for science in some! This science outreach mission, central to the ICB laboratory’s commitments, has once again borne fruit. The students’ feedback is unanimous: they leave with stars in their eyes.
A big thank you… and see you next year!
The ICB would like to warmly thank all the participants, the students of course, but also everyone involved in organizing and leading these two weeks. This workshop is the result of a genuine collective commitment, which only aims to grow. The 2026 edition promises to be even more packed with activities, to continue to promote science among young people and, we hope, help them find their path!
