Recap of the SMARTLIGHT Scientific Day

On Friday, April 4, 2025, Polytech Dijon hosted the SMARTLIGHT scientific conference (France2030 – ANR-21-ESRE-0040), an event bringing together researchers, doctoral students, and partners to discuss the technological and scientific advancements of the platform. Organized by the ICB Laboratory (University of Burgundy Europe), this conference highlighted the latest developments in photonics, quantum sensors, and research valorization.

Led by leading teams from the ICB Laboratory and the FEMTO-ST Institute (Marie and Louis Pasteur University), the SMARTLIGHT platform receives support from the French National Research Agency (ANR) within the framework of France 2030, the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region, and the PEPR LUMA program.

A day structured around three key moments

The morning began with a presentation of the latest advances by Benoît Cluzel, François Courvoisier, and Frédéric Smektala. This was followed by the “New Members” session, dedicated to integrating new researchers into the program:

  • Clément Strutynski: Multifunctional optical fibers,
  • Benjamin Rousseaux: Modeling of strong coupling between optical emitters and resonators,
  • Mayeul Chipaux: Selective quantum control and entanglement in solid-state devices,
  • Simon Neves: Quantum sensors applied to the detection of organic gases.

The “Partnership Research and Valorization” session focused on collaborations and potential applications:

  • Aurélien Coillet: metrology of the Kerr index in pulsed regime,
  • Grégoire Bonnat (LightSpring),
  • Kamal Hammani: spectroscopy without a spectrometer,
  • Jean-Charles Beugnot: deployment of fiber optic sensors in the field.

Poster session and site visit afternoon

The afternoon was dedicated to a poster session and a tour of the platform. This allowed participants to discuss ongoing projects and explore the facilities.

In parallel, a steering committee meeting was held with the project members present. The day concluded with the presentation of the SMARTLIGHT poster awards, in partnership with the EIPHI doctoral school. We would like to congratulate Diana Singh and Elliott Crevon!
