BDA 2026: four days dedicated to data management in Dijon

From October 19 to 22, 2026, Dijon hosted the 42nd edition of the BDA (Data Management – Principles, Technologies, and Applications) conference, organized by the ICB and LIB laboratories (Université Bourgogne Europe). This edition took place at the ESEO engineering school in Dijon. As an annual gathering for the French scientific community specializing in data management, BDA brings together researchers, faculty members, and doctoral students to explore advancements and key issues within the field.

A scientific program focused on current issues in data management

Over the course of four days, participants attended scientific presentations, demonstration sessions, poster presentations, and invited lectures. Discussions focused on topics such as the processing and utilization of large-scale data, databases and graphs, artificial intelligence and machine learning, time series, as well as data quality, provenance, and security. The program featured three invited lectures, with contributions from Patrick Valduriez (Inria), Davide Mottin (Aarhus University), and Niv Dayan (University of Toronto). A round-table discussion on research and teaching perspectives in the fields of databases and artificial intelligence provided a further opportunity to extend the conversation. Meanwhile, the poster and demonstration sessions allowed participants to showcase their work and engage directly with the community.

Dijon on the agenda for the meet-up sessions

Beyond the scientific sessions, several events offered participants the opportunity to discover Dijon and its heritage.
The conference began with a welcome reception in the Salle de Flore at the Palace of the Dukes and Estates of Burgundy. The following day, a wine tasting—organized in collaboration with the Burgundy Wine School (École des Vins de Bourgogne) in Beaune—provided a chance to explore the region’s wines.
On Wednesday, October 21, participants took part in a guided tour of Dijon’s historic center, followed by a gala dinner at the Grand Hôtel La Cloche. The evening also served as the occasion for presenting the thesis award and the award for the best demonstration.
These various activities helped foster interaction among members of the scientific community, in a setting distinct from that of the formal presentations and working sessions.
