On Tuesday, March 31st, the ICB laboratory (CNRS / University of Burgundy Europe) organized La Nuit du Quantique (The Night of Quantum) in Dijon, a national event connecting 13 cities across France via video link, all focused on quantum science and technology. This edition held special significance for us, as national coordination was handled from Dijon. A significant organizational challenge that brought together researchers, students, and the public throughout France for an evening dedicated to quantum physics.

In Dijon, the evening began with a roundtable discussion on the theme “Quantum Physics in Everyday Life: Myth, Reality, and Future,” moderated by Charles Babin, lecturer at UBE (ICB):
– Philippe Grangier, Emeritus Research Director at the CNRS (Université Paris-Saclay / Institut d’Optique Graduate School)
– Camille Lombard-Latune, Junior Professor at UBE and the ICB laboratory
– Ariane Soret, Quantum Research Engineer at Quandela
– Daniel Larose, Science Communicator

The public was then able to discover the exhibition of Maëva Ferreira Da Costa, a visual artist and graduate of ENSAD Dijon, whose works are inspired by research carried out at the ICB laboratory – “Answers that fell from the sky to questions that we do not know how to ask”.

The highlight of the evening was the live conference by Philippe Grangier, “From the foundations of quantum mechanics to quantum technologies”, followed by a quiz, and activities around the game |HOP>, the quantum game! presented by Daniel Larose, and numerous exchanges with the public.

The prizes for the winners of the school competitions organized by the French Physical Society (SFP) were also awarded. Congratulations to the winners:

A huge thank you to the university’s technical and audiovisual teams who ensured everything ran smoothly throughout the evening: sound management, microphones, video recording, and especially the live link between the different cities, essential for bringing this national event to life.
📡 The event was broadcast live on the Sciences et Avenir Facebook page and will soon be available online, notably on YouTube.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful event and to the large audience in Dijon, with over 120 people in attendance! A fantastic way to remind everyone that quantum physics is also very much alive in Dijon and the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.
🤝🏻 A huge thank you to our partners: the SFP, the CNRS, the University of Burgundy Europe and the Mirande Faculty of Sciences and Techniques, the SFO and the SCF, Le Singe en Hiver, Sciences et Avenir, and Dijon Métropole. Thanks also to QuanTEdu France, the QUANTEEM Master’s program, and DiTeQ (ICB Laboratory).
