Symposium “Arts-Sciences: Zones of Indiscernibility”

The ICB Laboratory, in collaboration with the Dijon National School of Art and Design, is organizing the first symposium dedicated to the zones of indiscernibility between Arts and Sciences. This symposium will be held on March 12, 13, and 14, 2025, at Polytech Dijon.

But what is a zone of indiscernibility?
It is a space where boundaries disappear, where science and art meet, influence each other, and transform.

This symposium will explore language, method, objectivity, and sensory experience. Its aim is to map these zones of indiscernibility between art and science. The goal is to identify, characterize, and define them, and to understand their function and contribution within a context of research and creation in art and science.

This research will draw upon terms and principles capable of characterizing, qualifying, and differentiating these various areas of indiscernibility between art and science. It could, for example, develop around the articulation of principles of similarity, correspondence, resonance, exchange, hybridization, filiation, similarity, transformation, transfer, transition, transposition, interpretation, and interaction.

Each contributor to this symposium will thus be able to explore one or more of these areas of indiscernibility between art and science in order to establish this shared territory of exploration between art and science: conferences and discussions, art-science exhibitions, and presentations by artists, researchers, and philosophers.
