ICB – Laboratoire interdisciplinaire Carnot de Bourgogne

Academics

Join a world-class scientific program!

The ICB places a strong emphasis on research-oriented education. In this capacity, it contributes to the academic programs delivered at the Université Bourgogne Europe (UBE) and the Université de Technologie de Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM).

Each year, the laboratory supports doctoral studies through a range of funding mechanisms, including doctoral contracts, CIFRE agreements (with industrial partners), research contracts, as well as national (ANR) and European (PCRD) projects. By providing a scientifically rich and stimulating environment, ICB ensures the delivery of high-level scientific training.

EIPHI GRADUATE SCHOOL
Engineering and Innovation through Physical Sciences, Advanced Technologies, and Interdisciplinary Research

The University Bourgogne Europe offers an integrated international master-to-PhD program called EIPHI, which stands for Engineering and Innovation through Physical Sciences, Advanced Technologies, and Interdisciplinary Research.
The ICB Laboratory has partnered in creating a highly competitive, cutting-edge technological environment designed for master’s and doctoral students in the sciences from around the world.
The EIPHI Graduate School provides exceptionally competitive, unparalleled courses across various fields of study: Physics, Mathematics, Intelligent Systems and Structures Applications, Energy, Materials Science, and Computer Science.

CARNOT PASTEUR DOCTORAL SCHOOL
Driving scientific innovation at the core of excellence

The Carnot Pasteur Doctoral School of Dijon is a doctoral training institution that brings together researchers and PhD students across various scientific fields. It provides an excellent environment for research, in close connection with laboratories and companies in the Bourgogne Franche-Comté region.

The doctoral school offers a stimulating setting where PhD candidates can develop high-level scientific and professional skills, in areas ranging from fundamental sciences to industrial applications.

In collaboration with academic institutions and industrial partners, it supports innovation and cutting-edge research.

MASTER QUANTEEM
Quantum Technologies and Engineering Erasmus Mundus

The QuanTEEM Master’s program is a prestigious degree born from the collaboration of three international universities. With a curriculum focused on quantum technologies, it aims to attract top-level international students to Europe. More than €5 million has been allocated for the period 2022–2026.

The Quantum Technologies and Engineering Erasmus Mundus Master (QuanTEEM) offers a comprehensive program in quantum technologies, covering all current applications and leveraging a wide range of industrial collaborations. QuanTEEM’s innovative and unique content in Europe is designed to attract a large number of students to the Master’s program. The program builds on the expertise and research activities of the ICB Laboratory, led by Stéphane Guérin, who is also the project coordinator.

MASTER CDM
Master in Materials Control and Sustainability

The field of materials durability and control encompasses both fundamental and applied research, as it covers all stages of materials development, use, degradation, and recycling.

The aim of this program is to train students capable of taking on responsibilities in materials characterization and control, both in analytical laboratories and in direct connection with industrial processes.

In this regard, the program spans numerous industrial sectors, including metallurgy, ceramics, microelectronics, nanotechnologies, the cement industry, and glass production.

Program Directors:
M1: Valérie POTIN, UBE – M2: Jean-Marc SIMON, UBE

MASTER PPN
Master International Physics, Photonics and Nanotechnology

The PPN Master’s program offers advanced training through research and professional integration within both academic and industrial sectors in physics. The program covers the fundamentals and applications of laser physics, femtosecond technologies, guided optics and optical communications, mechanics, quantum technologies, as well as nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Course content is delivered using the latest theoretical, computational, and experimental tools available at the ICB Laboratory and its partner institutions. The program is open to students entering M1 (first year of the Master’s) and offers the possibility of a work-study track in M2. The entire curriculum is taught in English.

PROFESSIONAL MASTER DEGREE PC2M
Processes, Control, and Metallic Materials, with a focus on the Nuclear Industry

This professional Master’s program aims to equip students with the skills closely aligned with current industrial needs, particularly in the nuclear sector, which accounts for 125,000 direct and 285,000 indirect jobs in France. The nuclear industry is strongly established in the Burgundy region and was formally recognized through the creation of the PNB Competitiveness Cluster (Pôle Nucléaire de Bourgogne) in 2005.

The program is offered exclusively through work-study schemes (professionalization contracts or apprenticeships). It meets the recruitment needs of major companies such as AREVA and EDF, which are actively hiring given the scale of ongoing and upcoming projects (55,000 positions projected by 2020 across the nuclear sector). It is therefore essential to provide this employment hub with high-level training for engineers and specialists involved in the design and manufacturing of components for nuclear power plants.

Program Director: Jean-Philippe CHATEAU-CORNU, Professor, UBE
