TOMOXPERT Platform

Non-destructive testing and metrology at the service of innovation and industrial synergy

The TomoXpert platform, dedicated to non-destructive testing (NDT) and associated metrology, aims to bring together the equipment and expertise of various entities within the University of Burgundy Europe (UBE) to offer a structured range of services in training, research, technology transfer, and industrial services. The platform provides access to both conventional NDT techniques and the most advanced NDT techniques, including tomography (an essential technique for many current industrial and research challenges), as well as NDT-related techniques such as the use of robotic inspection systems and automated defect detection. Its purpose is to support industrial and academic partners in research and development projects, thereby generating synergies.

Affiliated Research Unit(s):

– ICB Laboratory
– DRIVE (EA 1859, Department of Research in Vehicle Engineering for the Environment), based in Auxerre/Nevers.

Certification

TomoXpert has been accredited by the COS BFC (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Research Center) since March 2023 as a “Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Research Platform.”

The platform relies on its directly linked industrial and academic partners, as well as on the competitiveness clusters present in the BFC region (Nuclear Valley), and on institutional partners such as the UIMM (Union of Metallurgical Industries and Mining), Robotics Valley, CETIM (Center for Technical Studies of Industrial Materials), and Usinerie Partners, through the University-Industry platform “CND LAB'” based in Chalon-sur-Saône. TomoXpert represents the University of Burgundy within CND LAB’. It is supported by COFREND (French Confederation for Non-Destructive Testing).

As part of the services managed by our partner Satt Sayens, the actions carried out are ISO 9001:2021 certified.

Equipment

Current

– Ultrasonics: UT PA, TOFD, immersion, accessories (encoders, shims, defect parts).
– Radiography: 200 kV X-ray tube, DUERR CR35 digital scanner, calibrated RT parts.
– Active thermography: FLIR S60 cameras, TELOPS M350, excitation sources (flash, laser, blackbody).
– Acoustic emission: Mistras AEWIN system (100/150 kHz).
– Eddy currents: Single/dual frequency systems, various probes.
– NDT simulation: CIVA, MATLAB, COMSOL, FLUX, ONSCALE.
– Other tools: Interferometric profilometer, Phantom high-speed cameras, Kreon articulated arm with scanner and Polyworks.

Currently being acquired

– Industrial X-ray tomography system, 225keV microfocus type, for inspecting large and thick parts
– Wide-field, non-destructive 3D microcomputed tomography system for high-resolution part inspection
– Induction thermal imaging system for active thermography inspection of metallic parts
– Pulsed and phased array CF NDT systems for NDT of metallic parts
– Advanced PA UT NDT systems (FMC, TFM, PWI, etc.)

Currently under internal development

– A low-cost, non-destructive internal shape control system for shell-type parts based on the adaptation of ultrasonic systems on a multi-articulated arm.
