I joined the LTm team (Laser and Materials Treatment) of ICB laboratory since 5 years and a half now. We are specialized in welding (laser, but also TIG and CMT for example) of materials. Our main research topic is focused on dissimilar welding (such as 316L steel with titanium for example). I currently work on modeling aspects, such as the prediction of residual stresses in assemblies (FEM modeling). We are also interested in modeling of processes themselves: for example, we wish to understand (and model) the keyhole laser welding mode. In this mode, laser irradiation provides a huge vaporization of the material, giving rise to a recoil pressure on the surface, and the formation of a thin and deep hole, closing immediately in the wake at the rear of the laser spot.

– Physique des interactions laser/matière/milieu et compréhension des mécanismes impliqués dans le procédé de soudage laser en mode keyhole:
Suivant ce mode, l’irradiation laser induit une forte vaporisation associée à une éjection de vapeur métallique. La pression de recul ainsi générée sur la surface provoque la formation d’un trou étroit et profond (capillaire) se refermant immédiatement après le passage du laser.

J’ai créé cette UV fin 2009 et la première session s’est déroulée au semestre d’automne 2010. La création de cette UV a par ailleurs fait l’objet d’un article présenté lors d’un congrès AIP (Le Mont-Dore, 29 mars – 1er avril 2011). Le contenu y est présenté plus en détails qu’ici: UV UTBM MN55
Concrètement, le cours comporte plusieurs parties (équations, discrétisation, puis lien avec les logiciels dont ANSYS Workbench, DesignModeler et FLUENT). Lors des séances de TD (2h), on assemble puis résout de petits systèmes à la main en considérant en général 5 éléments de volumes. La fin de chaque séance est consacrée au calcul équivalent sous FLUENT et à la comparaison des résultats. Les premiers cas considérés sont de type “thermique” (conduction/convection, problématique ailette par exemple), puis on évolue progressivement vers des cas plus complexes (ajout du terme d’advection avec hypothèse d’un schéma amont puis d’autres schémas, ajout d’un terme transitoire, etc.). Les TP permettent l’étude de cas concrets sous FLUENT dans la limite de 512 000 éléments.
