Julien Fatome is a CNRS senior research engineer (IR-HC) at the ICB laboratory and a member of the SAFIR team. CARRIÈRE
I was born in Charleville-Mézières, France, in 1978. After graduating from the engineering school ESIREM, I received the Master’s degree in 2000 and the PhD degree in physics for studies of ultra-short pulse propagation at 160-Gb/s in dispersion managed optical fibre lines in 2004, from the University of Bourgogne, Dijon, France. In December 2004, I became Research Engineer in the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Department of Physics, ICB Institute. Since then, I work in the SAFIR team, which focuses the research activities on nonlinear effects in optical fibres and ultrahigh bit rate optical communications, in particular on the all-optical control of light state-of-polarization and more recently on Kerr resonators and associated optical frequency comb generation. I have been the PI of numerous national and regional grants. From 2012 to 2017, I was awarded an ERC starting grant: PETAL project. I have received the accreditation to supervise research (HDR) in 2019 and I have supervised so far 14 PhDs or postdocs. In 2020, I was awarded at one of the highest level of Research Engineer (IRHC). Thanks to numerous national and international collaborators, we have published more than 140 peer-reviewed articles and over 150 contributions in conference proceedings, 3 book chapters and 4 patents. I am regularly contacted to peer-review articles for different publisher groups as well as scientific proposals for funding agencies. I have been a member of the CLEO US committee from 2017 to 2019. From 2020 to 2022, I held an invited researcher position at the University of Auckland. My work supports collective research efforts, the training of early-career researchers, and the long-term sustainability of experimental expertise within the laboratory and our national/international collaborators.
PROJETS
Over the past decade, I have played a key role in the structuration of experimental activities related to all-optical Kerr resonators, notably through the coordination of national and international collaborative projects and the development of shared experimental infrastructures.
The ANR project COMBY focuses on the study of nonlinear dynamics in Fabry–Pérot Kerr resonators for optical frequency comb generation. It brings together the French community working on Kerr combs, including LAAS, IRMAR, the Fresnel Institute, PHLAM, and ICB.
The WALL-IN project (confining walls-of-Light in nonlinear Kerr resonators) is a CNRS International Research Project focused on the study of nonlinear dynamics occurring in optical Kerr resonators. This project is managed by Julien Fatome from the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire Carnot de Bourgogne (ICB) in Dijon (France) in collaboration with the photonics group of The University of Auckland (New-Zealand).
